God of War Laufey is the next God of War game, and it’s coming as a PS5 exclusive. Though the action shifts from Kratos and Atreus to Faye, make no mistake that this is an epic mythological adventure of godly proportions, with the sort of combat and exploration we expect from the series.
Announced during a lengthy 20-minute reveal at PlayStation’s State of Play in June, we already have a pretty clear picture of how God of War Laufey will play as Faye fights through the Everywhen – a cross-culture afterlife of the gods where deities collide. Continuing her story thread as the father and son set out on their own portion journey, this is very much building on the overall narrative.
Which all to say that God of War Laufey is quickly shaping up to be an upcoming PS5 game that we’re the most excited about. More than just Faye’s side of events, she’s bringing something new to the series while the adventure explores myth beyond the Green and Norse ones we’ve seen before. God of War Laufey release date speculation
God of War Laufey currently doesn’t have a release window, even though we saw a bunch of footage during its big reveal in the recent State of Play showcase.
However, in the trailer we saw quite a lot of gameplay which indicates that development must be going well and hopefully no big delays head our way. Hopefully a 2027 release window gets announced soon, but so far that is just speculation on our part. God of War Laufey platforms
So far, we know that God of War Laufey will be heading to PS5 once it releases. We are still waiting to see if any more platforms, such as Switch 2, get confirmation. However, considering Sony’s shift back to exclusive titles regarding single-player games, it does seem unlikely that other consoles or even PC will get it.
Hopefully we are wrong, but I have a strong feeling that it’ll be on a future addition to our list of PS5 exclusives for quite a while once it is out in the wild.

Faye may have taught Kratos a thing or two, as their combat styles have some similarities. Yet, where his moves are all about power, Faye’s skills make use of her speed and dexterity, making fights look a bit like Devil May Cry 5 by way of God of War – which is a refreshing change of pace for this often meaty-feeling series. Make no mistake, though, Faye isn’t holding back, she’s still able to take out enemies with extreme prejudice. So far, we’ve seen her zip around – and even perform some aerial combos – with a special magical sword.
While combat, like in previous God of War games, seems to be the focus in God of War Laufey, like in Kratos’ adventures Faye will also be exploring some areas. Though the bulk of what we’ve seen so far revolves around her being thrust into the middle of a strange new conflict in the Everywhen.
God of War Laufey story and setting
God of War Laufey shifts the action from Kratos and Atreus at the beginning of 2018’s God of War, the recently deceased Faye – mother of their unconventional godly family unit – erm, wakes up? Something strange has happened upon her death, and while she’s aware the father and son are enacting the plan she set in motion back in the realm of Norse Mythology, she’s woken up somewhere else and quite confused about it.
The first game in the series to be targeting exclusively PlayStation 5, this looks gorgeous so far. Faye herself is portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil, True Blood), and she’s quickly shown to be just a determine and capable as the rest of her family, keen to throw herself into danger if it will help those she cares about, and with a strong sense of justice.
Only in death, it turns out, was she able to be pulled from the pantheon in which she dwelt to somewhere else entirely, and she’s quickly captured by two intimidating masked figures. Teaming up with a talking ribbon (attached to a sword… it’s a talking sword), as her power returns she’s able to break free, ending up in the middle of a new land’s conflict and in over her head.
