Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick says he doesn’t anticipate there to be many changes to the Rockstar Games staff roster once GTA 6 releases.
If you’re keeping up to date with the games industry, you don’t need me to tell you that things are a bit rough at the moment. A new batch of layoffs seems to be announced every week, and everything’s getting more expensive, which in turn is hindering sales. It’s also not uncommon for developers to move on from studios upon the completion of games. But for GTA 6, Take-Two’s CEO doesn’t expect either of those to happen.
When asked by The Game Business if he was expecting turnover at Rockstar following the release of GTA 6, Zelnick responds, “We don’t see that in our company. We have a very low attrition rate at Rockstar.” He continues, saying that, in general, “Take-Two’s overall attrition rate is about half that of the industry average.”
But of course, in the modern era, games don’t just release like they would back in the day, which Zelnick notes. “We have a lot of work to do after the launch of GTA 6,” he says, and that “I have no reason to believe that we’ll see any changes on composition of the team here.”
With a developer as successful as Rockstar Games and a game as huge as GTA 6 will undoubtedly be, I would surely hope there will be no layoffs for the people at Rockstar. But as the likes of Microsoft has shown us, being extremely successful somehow doesn’t stop mass layoffs from happening, and while he didn’t specifically mention layoffs, it’s good to see Zelnick seemingly nixing the idea.
