Subnautica 2 gold is one of the rarer materials you’ll need once you’ve become well acquainted with the likes of titanium and copper. It’s also one of those annoying resources that will appear in countless crafting recipes before you’ve ever seen it in your surroundings, leading you to desperately ask where to find it.
Don’t worry, I did the same thing for a while too, but at least you’ve got me to help guide the way. It’s not easy – you’ll need to progress the story and get your hands on some serious kit before heading out to the dangerous area in which Subnautica 2 gold can be found, so let me hold your hand.
Where do you get gold in Subnautica 2?
In Subnautica 2, gold is found in the Graveyard, which is the very hot area to the east of your lifepod. Since this area is so hot, you’ll first need to find the heat tolerance adaptation. This is unlocked by following the story and the guidance of your NoA, but we’ve got a guide for getting the adaptation on the way. You might also find that you’ll need to traverse into deeper waters here, so I’d recommend taking a Subnautica 2 tadpole and rebreather when you head out on the hunt for gold.
When you get there, as you can see in the image above, gold has quite a unique appearance, making it stand out from yellow-gold Sulphur ores. These spherical cage-like structures come in small, medium, and large sizes, just like other ores, granting more pieces of gold the larger they get.
You’ll need gold to make a ton of useful things, including an advanced wiring kit when you want to upgrade your tadpole. You can also use it to make gold Subnautica 2 ingots, but you won’t need those for a while.
