Avengers: Doomsday co-director Joe Russo says they can’t prevent fans from being spoiled… but what they can do is deliver a movie that defies expectation.
“On one hand, audiences want to be surprised, and that’s part of what makes the theatrical experience exciting,” Russo told Metro. “On the other hand, it can become a little over-policed, where people are anxious about engaging with anything.”
Marvel fans take their movies pretty seriously, and there tends to be quite an uproar about spoilers ahead of and during the first week of every major release. Because Avengers: Doomsday is being billed as the most epic team-up event since Endgame, and even sees actors from the pre-Disney Fox days reprise their roles from non-MCU movies… the stakes are quite a bit higher this time around.

The absolutely wild cast list includes: Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.
The Russos say that, spoilers aside, protecting the ’emotional experience’ of the movie is what matters most.
Continued Russo: “We design these films to unfold in a certain way, and we want audiences to feel those moments as intended. But at the same time, you can’t control everything. You have to focus on making something that holds up beyond the initial surprise.”
