As Final Fantasy 14 streams its long-awaited Letter from the Producer LIVE, lifting the veil on patch 7.5 and its content, I sit there stunned… wide-eyed – is that Kefka I just saw appear on the screen?
Yes, it is. Near the beginning of the stream, toward the end of the little patch 7.5 teaser that Square Enix so kindly started its showcase off with, you’ll spot Kefka. If you blink, you’ll miss the reveal – but it’s there. His unhinged smile, clownish makeup, and all.
I’m convinced this means the new Ultimate raid will feature Kefka as a boss, and I’m not alone. Comments rolled in pretty much immediately on the video expressing similar thoughts.

One reads, “So, I’m assuming our Ultimate is Kefka and the Warring Triad?” Another adds, “Kefka Ultimate, let’s gooooooooooo!” Clearly, we’re all convinced – and why wouldn’t we be?
We already know about the potential return to the Void coming with 8.0, with everything from a raid foe that’s said to be “wielding the boundless power of the Void” to a dungeon boss that looks to be a literal Voidsent having been unveiled.

So, I’d say it makes sense that Kefka – who made a stunning appearance in Sigmascape V4.0 back during ye olde Stormblood days – is seemingly making a comeback in patch 7.5’s mysterious new Ultimate raid.
Over on Reddit, folks seem to agree, too, dubbing the short clip of Kefka’s face at the end of the Trail to the Heavens trailer the “next Ultimate teaser.” And, of course, people think The Warring Triad from Heavensward might accompany Kefka.
Honestly, I’m just thrilled to see Kefka making a return – regardless of whether it’s as the next big Ultimate boss or otherwise. He stands as one of the Final Fantasy series’ greatest villains (after Sephiroth, my beloved, of course), and I’d argue we’ve not seen enough of him in the MMO.
The Savage tier that included him back in 2018 was fun, and his raid still stands as one of my favorite fights in Final Fantasy 14 to date.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a static to assemble before patch 7.5 releases on April 28 – not even two weeks from now. Here’s to hoping we all (or those of us brave enough to) get to take on the clown-faced boss in yet another arena.
Final Fantasy 14’s 8.0 update isn’t going to be another “rebirth” for the MMO, Yoshi-P says, as it isn’t on the scale of A Realm Reborn.
