Rockstar Games has shut down concerns that GTA 6 could be impacted by a reported data breach. Following claims from hacker group ‘ShinyHunters’ that it had accessed private Rockstar Games data by posing as an internal service, the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer states that the breach included only “a limited amount of non-material company information.”

The wait for the crime game’s arrival has been agonizing enough, and it’s even more of an unknown on PC, where we still have no confirmation of an actual release date. Security site The Cybersec Guru reported on Saturday April 11 that the ShinyHunters group had accessed the Snowflake servers used by the GTA 6 developer. It did this not through a breach of encryption, but by obtaining authentication tokens for an AI analytics and business monitoring tool called Anodot, which had been given access rights to Rockstar’s data warehouse.

The statement shared by the hacker group warned Rockstar “to reach out by Tuesday April 14, 2026, before we leak along with several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way.” It added, “Make the right decision. Don’t be the next headline. Final warning: pay or leak.”

A Rockstar Games spokesperson confirmed the incident had occurred in a response to IGN, but downplayed its severity. “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach,” its statement reads. “This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”

Given the nature of the breach, it’s unlikely to lead to anything on the scale of the 2022 leak that saw dozens of images and videos shared from an early GTA 6 build. The Snowflake instances that were reported as the target by The Cybersec Guru would be likely to contain financial records and contracts with third-parties, which could include data on player spending or marketing costs.

The GTA 6 release date is still on course for Thursday November 19, although we’ve yet to hear any word on when it will come our way on PC. The good news is that Strauss Zelnick has recently assured us that there has been “zero” use of generative AI in the development of the world’s most-anticipated sequel.
