It’s 2026, and the cost of everything is rising. The PS5 now costs AU$250 more than it did when it launched in late 2020. The ROG Xbox Ally X copped a AU$200 price rise back in February, now setting you back a prohibitive AU$1,799. An ex-Nintendo sales lead said earlier this month that Switch 2 prices going up is “inevitable”.
And, well, that’s just gaming consoles.
Nintendo Switch 2 only released in June but its software line-up is growing fast (not to mention that the vast majority original Nintendo Switch games are compatible with it). Pokemon Pokopia—which JB Hi-Fi is currently selling for AU$99.95—is a recent highlight: a cosy blend of Animal Crossing, Minecraft and, well, Pokemon.
“Despite its many influences, manages to be a unique spin-off for the Pokemon series that’s also an accomplished life sim,” reads our 4.5 star review. It’s already joined our list of the best Switch 2 games to play in 2026.
Here’s why the Nintendo Switch 2 price will probably rise at some point soon.
