This list of the best new to Netflix movies will help you map out your movie viewing this weekend. We’ve plucked out the best three films that have recently been added to Netflix’s catalog to keep you busy and entertained over the next few days.
There’s something of a horror theme this week, starting with disaster movie Thrash, which sees sharks invade an unlucky coastal town. We’re following that up with a classic instalment in the Scream franchise. Then we’re rounding out the weekend with A Quiet Place Part II – a terrific sequel that’s well worth your time.

What’s more frightening than a Category 5 hurricane? How about a Category 5 hurricane that delivers a shiver of hungry sharks right into a seaside town? That’s the nightmare scenario at the heart of Thrash, a surprisingly solid combination disaster/killer shark flick from Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola. Thrash plays things a bit straighter than that movie and benefits from a strong cast that includes Djimon Hounsou as marine researcher Dr. Dale Edwards, and Phoebe Dynevor as a pregnant woman who is trapped in her car, with seemingly no way out.
Despite its pulpy premise, Thrash manages to deliver some real tension amid its gruesome set pieces. Good fun for a Friday night.

If you’re still feeling a little burned by the underwhelming Scream 7, then this may be a welcome reminder of happier times. For clarity, this is 2022’s fifth entry in the franchise (confusingly released with the same title as the original), which revived the franchise for a new generation. 25 years after the original Ghostface killings, another masked murderer is stalking Woodsboro. A new gang of teens, including Melissa Barrera’s Sam and Jenna Ortega’s Tara, band together to find the killer, with help from returning heroes Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).
Scream 5 is not quite the peak of the franchise (the original is pretty much impossible to beat), but it’s an assured and exciting slasher with a likeable cast and a witty script.

A Quiet Place Part II
Watch On
Available: US
This horror sequel continues the story of the Abbott family as they try to survive on a now alien-infested Earth. The original movie introduced us to a race of terrifying creatures that hunt by attacking anything that makes a sound. In A Quiet Place Part II the Abbotts set out to try and find more survivors and – just maybe – a way to fight back against the monsters. Cillian Murphy and Thrash’s Djimon Hounsou join the cast, which also features Emily Blunt.
The first A Quiet Place is a nail-biting classic and this sequel manages to keep up the tension, even one-upping it in a few scenes. Prequel A Quiet Place: Day One is also available on Netflix and is arguably the best of the three.
