It’s the weekend, and that means one thing: time for a Netflix binge. As well as its packed catalogue of movies, the streamer is also full of brilliant new shows, with a good number of them just the right length to fill a weekend.
We’re in the mood for love this week, with a pair of long-running romantic dramas getting their latest seasons. But if that’s not up your street, then we also have an absolutely terrifying drama based on a real-life horror from the late ’80s.
New to Netflix to stream this weekend
Virgin River season 7
Watch On
Available: US/UK
The seventh season of this long-running romantic drama follows the lives of Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). Mel is a nurse practitioner and midwife who moves to Virgin River, Northern California from Los Angeles, hoping for a fresh start. It’s not long before she meets and falls for Jack, a handsome local bar owner and a former U.S. Marine, struggling with PTSD.
Season 6 ended with Mel and Jack finally getting married, but the story is far from over as the couple embarks on the next stage of their adventure. Based on Robyn Carr’s popular novel series, this is a charming romance with a charismatic cast.

Radioactive Emergency
Watch On
Available: US/UK
This five-episode Brazilian mini-series is based on a harrowing true story. Set in 1987, it reveals how a group of petty thieves broke into an abandoned hospital, stole a piece of radiotherapy equipment, and smashed it open to sell for scrap – unleashing a toxic substance that led to people falling sick. As the authorities investigated this mysterious disease, they realized that Brazil was facing a radiological disaster that could endanger thousands of lives.
The real-life story behind this series is grimly fascinating. Radioactive Emergency shines a light on a disaster that feels both timely and terrifying.

Eva Lasting season 4

Available: US/UK
The fourth and final season of this Colombian coming-of-age series has just landed on Netflix. Eva Samper (Francisca Estévez) is the first girl to attend an all-boys high school in the late 1970s. Worldly-wise, she quickly bonds with a group of outsider kids who become firm friends, notably Camilo (Emmanuel Restrepo). Having now finished school, season four follows Eva and the gang as they deal with the trials of their first jobs and college.
Eva and Camilo (Emmanuel Restrepo) are still an item, with Eva now at university and Camilo about to release his first novel, but some of the others are struggling in their lives. This final season of 12 episodes puts a cap on the drama so, if you’ve never seen the show before, it’s a great time to go back to the start and watch the whole thing.
